Code for Sustainable Homes
Providing help, advice and compliance testing on the Government owned national standard, Code for Sustainable Homes, is a service offered at Falcon Energy.
Alongside our fully qualified, licensed BRE Assessor, we can provide consultancy and guidance to both new build, extension or conversion projects.
The Code's principal objective is to continually improve sustainable living in any new build or extension project, using a range of technical components of the new build's eco design and construction, complying with the Code's scheme under contract to the Department of Communities and Local Government, DCLG.
Sustainable design therefore must now include the following mandatory areas, which is rated, to long term zero emission home building:
- Energy and CO2 emissions
- Waste
- Water
- Materials
- Surface Water Run-off
- Health and Wellbeing
And the following areas, that whilst not mandatory, make up part of the rating process:
- Ecology
- Pollution
- Management
As such, any new build project must be accompanied by a sustainable homes assessment, or be certified as 'Nil Rated'. However, a minimum requirement of the Code of Sustainable Homes is required, at Level 3, for registered social landlords, housing associations and certain planning authorities.
The nationwide service we offer includes:
- Full CFSH assessments - including pre-assessment reports to post construction
- Day lighting calculations
- Renewable energy reports
- SAP calculations to comply with DER/TER (ENE1), heat loss parameter (ENE2) and low or zero carbon technologies (ENE7) credits
At the start of any new build project we urge customers to speak to us. This way, not only can we provide a no obligation quotation but if awarded the contract we can discuss at the very beginning of the project the compulsory requirements that your building project must comply to, or equally, discuss the level of sustainable homes you wish to achieve.
Sustainable living is hugely advised, rather than certifying your build as 'Nil Rated'. Not only does it improve saleability of the project in years to come but the technical advances in building materials means the build can reduce fuel bills and CO2 emissions.
